Lagos is a something of a rarity in the Algarve for not only does it boast some of the regions finest beaches but it also has an important historical heritage. Lagos is an ancient town steeped in history.
	A centuries old fortress stands guard at the entrance of the river leading to the magnificent international Marina. From the river, fisherman can be seen unloading their boats; at the quayside meals or coffee can be taken while basking in the sun, watching the boats coming in and out.
